Animal Rescue Friends Before April, 1999, when ARF (Animal Rescue Friends) was organized, impounded animals were disposed of within three days. Since then, the date has been stretched to seven days, giving owners more time to reclaim their pets and us more time to place the unclaimed. In its first eighteen months ARF rescued 75 dogs, 22 cats, a Quaker Parakeet, and a rabbit. Not only has ARF saved these lives, they have saved the City of Nichols Hills several thousand dollars in euthanasia fees.
ARF needs your help. As citizens of Nichols Hills, please.....
- TAG AND MICROCHIP YOUR DOGS AND CATS. Microchipping is a permanent, nationwide registry, but visible tag is a faster way to recover a lost pet. Using both is the best protection.
- LICENSE YOUR PETS. Only $5.00 per pet per year (with proof of rabies vaccination) from the Public Works office located at 1009 NW 75th.
- SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PETS. The benefits outweigh the negatives: neutered animals are more apt to stay home, to be calmer and healthier and less apt to be "seasonal" attractions. Not to mention, people who spay or neuter can help reduce the hideous problems of pet overpopulation in our country.
- USE LEASHES AND "POOPER SCOOPERS" IN OUR PUBLIC AREAS. Both are required by oridinance, please comply.
Please assist ARF in its mission. They need foster homes, volunteers, and donations. Money donated to ARF is used for veterinary care, food, and kenneling.
