OG&E Controlled Interruptions
OG&E has advised the City that the persistent and extreme cold weather has led to high electricity use across the entire Southwest Power Pool (SPP) system, resulting in inadequate supply and high prices of natural gas, and low supply of wind generation and wind-forecast uncertainty. SPP is the regional coordinating authority responsible for managing the electric grid for a portion of the Central United States that includes Nichols Hills.
OG&E informs us the SPP has declared an Energy Emergency Alert Level 3, which signals the SPP may direct power suppliers to curtail energy use through controlled interruptions of service. That request has not been made at this time but may be at any time. OG&E is trying to confirm how long customers could experience outages and will provide that information once confirmed.
The City will do its best to inform the public as soon as we know anything at all. We anticipate outages could be in the 1-2 hour range.
