Neighborhood Watch

Is Someone Watching Your House?

We hope so! We hope it is one of the volunteers who have agreed to serve as part of the Nichols Hills Neighborhood Watch organization and not a criminal waiting for you to leave for work or on vacation.

Nichols Hills enjoys a low crime rate but we can make it lower. For that reason the Nichols hills Neighborhood Watch Organization was revitalized a little over a year ago primarily through the efforts of the Nichols Hills City Council and the Nichols Hills Police and Fire Chiefs. We still have a long way to go to make sure each neighborhood has an effective watch organization in place. To be successful WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Purpose:

The Nichols Hills Neighborhood Watch is an association of neighbors who look out of reach other’s homes, alert the police to suspicious activities or a crime in progress, and work together to make their community a safer and better place to live.

Structure:

The program is administered by a committee of volunteers working with the Nichols Hills Police and Fire Departments. Each committee member is responsible for a defined area of Nichols Hills, and is charged with the responsibility of recruiting Block Captains and supporting their efforts. Block Captains are responsible for certain areas in proximity to their residence, which may be more or less than one city block.

Block Captains are responsible for the following:

  • Host meetings of neighbors in their block to discuss the watch concept, needs and methods. If desired, the Police and Fire Departments will send members to the block meetings to help explain how an effective block watch organization functions.
  • Relaying information to participating neighbors.Keep updating information on participating residents.
  • Serve as liaison between neighborhood and police, and communicate information about meetings and crime incidents to residents.
  • Establish a regular means of communicating with watch members, (i.e.: e-mail, fax, calling matrix, newsletter, etc.)
  • Preparing a neighborhood map showing names, addresses and telephone numbers of participating households and keep this information up to date.

The Nichols Hills Neighborhood Watch Association comitee Members may are listed on their page of this site.

We hope that you will agree to participate.
