Rock Stars & friends lend their time for a special cause!
October 31 2010, marks the date for the 14th annual “Pooches on Parade” fundraising event in Nichols Hills. The event is held each year to benefit Animal Rescue Friends (A.R.F.) and this year has a few special friends helping with the fundraising efforts. Famed musicians and Oklahoma natives Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips and Graham Colton have agreed to lend their name to help promote the event.
“I have rescued and fostered dogs for 20 years,” said Kent Potter, co-chair of the event. “ARF has rescued 750 dogs and cats since 1997, pays for boarding, medical and neutering.” Janell Flanery is Potter’s co-chair for this event.
“Nichols Hills has a very small tax base,” adds Potter. “We have no shelter and rely on this fundraiser for all monies [for lost or abandoned pets].” ARF volunteers are at PetSmart every Saturday finding homes for healthy pets rescued by ARF. Potter also included, “You will get a healthy pet if it you adopt an ARF pet.”
ARF is a non-profit animal rescue organization who assists lost Nichols Hills pets in finding their owners, to help reduce the cost of stray animal problems for the City of Nichols Hills and to insure the welfare of animals impounded by the City of Nichols Hills.
In addition to Coyne and Colton, Mrs. Jennifer Mardis Welch and Charlie Givens will also serve as event judges. Potter wishes to give a special thanks to Jennifer Mardis Welch for asking Wayne Coyne and Graham Colton to help judge the parade.
The event begins at noon on Oct 31st at 6700 N Grand Blvd. Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. Please help support Animal Rescue Friends of Nichols Hills. Registration is $25 and can be done on-site the day of the parade. Donations can be made to A.R.F. Pooch Parade 2010. Also visit www.animalrescuefriends.com.
