Veteran City Manager Retires

Veteran City Manager Doug Henley retired Thursday after more than 22 years as city manager.

In October of 2002, Henley was named recipient of the 2002 Don Rider Award by the Oklahoma Municipal League. Henley was the 15th recipient of the award which honors the late Don Rider, former OML executive director, and is to recognize local officials who have made outstanding long-term commitments to his or her community.

Henley, who has been city manager since 1979, is responsible for several accomplishments including a central dispatch for fire, police and public works; computerized accounting system for the city; a number capital improvements including an 8 million dollar program under a 1983 bond issue; and a nationally recognized community parks program.

Henley said he plans to do consulting and interim city manager work after his retirement.
