Health and Sustainability Commission

February 27, 2013

1.      Call to Order

 

Chairman Herzel called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. 

 

2.      Roll Call

           

Acknowledgement was made by Chairman Herzel that all members were present.­­­­­­­­­­

 

3.      Approval of Minutes: 

a)       January 23, 2013

 

APPROVED:  Burger made a MOTION to approve the January 23, 2013, the motion was seconded by Covington. 

            AYES: Herzel, Burger, Malloy, Ternes, Smith and Covington.

            NAYES: None

 

4.      Discussion, Consideration and Possible Action regarding park signs.

 

Public Works Director Randy Lawrence advised he will notify Nancy Herzel when the signs have arrived.

 

5.      Discussion, Consideration and Possible Action regarding recycling.

 

Chairman Herzel shared some of the positive feedback the Recycling the Hills group.  They advised they currently have 76 Nichols Hills residents participating in their recycling business.

 

6.      Discussion, Consideration and Possible Action regarding waste.

 

No action taken.

 

7.      Discussion, Consideration and Possible Action regarding new plantings & landscaping in easements.

 

No action taken.

 

8.      Discussion, Consideration, & Possible Action regarding water use.

 

Members continued the discussion pertaining to the issues which occur with overwatering of yards and vegetation, watering during freezing temperatures, and watering while it is raining.   They discussed the safety hazard of accumulated ice in the road as well as the problem of street deterioration.

 

Covington made a motion to present to council their recommendation to require freeze and rain sensors on irrigation systems. Malloy seconded the motion.

            AYES: Herzel, Burger, Malloy, Ternes, Smith and Covington.

            NAYES: None

           

9.      Discussion, Consideration, & Possible Action regarding grey water.

 

No action taken.

 

10.  Announcements.

 

None

 

11.  Adjournment

 

APPROVED:  There being no further business, Burger moved to adjourn the meeting,  Burger seconded the motion. 

            AYES: Herzel, Burger, Malloy, Ternes, Smith and Covington.
