August 25, 2010

1. Call to Order

Chairman Herzel called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.  Additionally she noted that Agenda Items 9 and 10 have been stricken from the agenda.

2. Roll Call

Acknowledgement was made by Chairman Herzel that she along with Members Carlene Burger, Rance Shields, Marty Smith and Mary Ellen Ternes, Pat Schonwald, Mary Frates and Peg Malloy were present.  The following members were absent: Carlene Burger and Kathy Brewer.

3. Comments: None

4. Approval of Minutes:

a. Meeting – July 29, 2010

APPROVED:  Moved by Frates, seconded by Ternes. AYES: Smith, Schonwald , Frates, Ternes, Herzel, Malloy and Shields.

Chairman Herzel requested the minutes reflect that Member Carlene Burger is now present for this meeting.


5. Discussion, Consideration and Possible action regarding Chairman’s Report .

Chairman Herzel and the commission acknowledged the hard work of previous EHS Chairman Frates.  In honor of those efforts, the commission presented Ms. Frates with a book and refreshments for the meeting.

Chairman Herzel addressed the commission by expressing her appreciation of all present and past members of this board, along with acknowledging the presences of Mr. & Mrs. Bill Arnold at this meeting.  Ms. Herzel stated that this commission plans to continue progressing.  More details will be presented at the September meeting.


6. Discussion, Consideration and Possible action regarding No Smoking Resolution.


Following a lengthy discussion by the commission members, Co-Vice Chairman Shields made a motion to table this item; seconded by Burger.  AYES: Smith, Schonwald , Frates, Ternes, Herzel, Malloy, Burger and Shields.


7. Discussion, Consideration and Possible action regarding Citizen Education.

Discussion of possible educational ideas were presented, including but not limited to town hall meetings, website information.  Chairman Herzel advised some if not all of these issues will be discussed in future meetings, allowing commission members to complete additional research.


8. Discussion, Consideration and Election of Officers.

Ms. Schonwald provided a summarized list of recommendations previously discussed by this commission to be presented to Planet Nichols Hills.  With the addition of Classen Schools, Mary Frates made a motion to approve these recommendations, seconded by Malloy.  AYES: Smith, Schonwald , Frates, Ternes, Herzel, Malloy, Burger and Shields.


9. Discussion, Consideration and Possible action scheduling meeting dates for August 2010 – December 2010.
